Curious About the Enneagram? Here’s Why Founders Should Be

This spring, I’ve had the chance to run a series of workshops with founders and leaders. At Creandum VC, my colleague Seb and I recently facilitated a workshop for founders to help them lead through uncertainty, first with themselves, then with their teams.

More recently, I was invited by the Managing Director of techstars, a global accelerator for early-stage startups, to lead a half-day workshop for their founder offsite at the gorgeous Wilderness Reserve in Suffolk. We used one of my favourite tools, the Enneagram: a dynamic personality framework for understanding core motivations, patterns, and blind spots, and a powerful lens for self-inquiry and awareness.

Across this and many other founder sessions, one insight keeps surfacing: the most effective leaders aren't just the fastest movers. They're the ones who know themselves, and who intentionally build the people and structures around them to sustain their energy and focus over the long term. They pause, reflect, and lead from presence rather than reactivity.

If the Enneagram piques your interest, you might enjoy reading up on the nine ennegram types, especially with a spirit of curiosity rather than self-diagnosis. I'm always happy to share further resources if you'd like to reach out.
