Magical Questions: Spark Deeper Connection and Joyful Conversations at Work and Beyond

I've been thinking a lot lately about magical questions, a concept from facilitator and author Priya Parker, best known for her book, The Art of Gathering.

These are questions designed specifically for your group and moment, importantly ones that everyone is 1) curious to answer and  2) eager to hear others respond to. They create space for genuine connection, curiosity, and sometimes even laughter. Here are a few favorites I've been enjoying:

  • “If you could magically duplicate yourself, what would the other version of you do with their days?"

  • “When was the last time you had the giggles? Why?”

  • “What's something you own that you're pretty sure no one else in your group (or at your table) owns?"

I love how these simple questions can open up deeper, more joyful conversations – in a work meeting, or around the dinner table with friends.
